High Fidelity (2000) Another strength, of course, is Cusack's performance. Woody Allen once said that while American actors were very good at playing virile men of action, there weren't many who could play more "normal," regular people. Cusack, on the other hand, has carved out a niche for himself playing regular guys. He doesn't look like The Boy Next Door (?I don't know if he is seen as esp good-looking or not -?), and he's neither stereotypically sensitive or hip, but comes across as a guy who feels both at ease and yet still longs for something more. At his best, like in movies such as THE SURE THING, SAY ANYTHING, THE GRIFTERS, BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, GROSSE POINT BLANK, and this, he plays people on the cusp of growing up, who are able to if they want to, but aren't sure if they want to, and yet he's made each of them different. (~has he? phone scene just now, he is pretty like he was on phone w Diane Court. car scene seems similar also.)

Rob Gordon...John Cusack
Laura.... Iben Hjejle
she's good, and attractive - my- reminds me of?~anne?what I tht/wantd her to be?
her voice, who is that? 3/16: uma thurman - oh and maybe plus iggie in friedgreentoma - mary stuart masterson. 11/9/07 yes I just saw movie and thought of this again. although, I like Laura best with her hair down. and it's when it is up (or short, in photo on imdb) that's when she really looks like, yes, mary stuart masterson. who is herself very good, maybe seems one of the most distinctly good actresses.
Marie DeSalle...
Lisa Bonet I thought so.
Charlie Nicholson....Catherine Zeta-Jones ah as the beautiful ex-girlfriend. she's good here, convincing as the girl he couldn't believe was with him. here she seems to me not yet sullied -made unextraordinary- by being in cell phone ads.

ah chicago: all at once everywhere in this conversation -I used to go to the Double Door to hear you DJ. -and what do you do? -I write a music column for The Reader. ---she's "Carolyn Fortes" -huh, isn't that an actual name I've seen in the Reader? unlikely. &no, ggl doesn't encourage the idea.
and 11/9/07: when Laura moves in with him, she leaves a Lake View apartment.

great happy end scene Jack Black singing Let's Get It On...
I've been really trying...
and if you feel - like I feel -
just saw it again, and really, I love this ending scene, so happy. the surprised look on Cusack's face and on Laura's...everyone dancing...Cusack standing in back of and putting his arms around her.. I believe when I fall in love with you, it will be forever.
