az- On the Internet (Thinking in Action): Books: HUBERT DREYFUS
eh disembodies telepresence, remoteness of real, anonymity vs commitment in the present age. so, no, don't read. my kind of sources Heidegger and Kierkegaard. but I never like what Dreyfus says do I. his application is, what, unsubtle?

compelling quotations as epigraphs made me want to attend to the book:

"I am body and soul"---so speaks the child. And why should one not speak like children?
The awakened and knowing say: body I am entirely, and nothing else; and soul is only a word for something about the body.
Behind your thoughts and feelings, my brother, there stands a mighty ruler, an unknown sage--whose name is self. In your body he dwells; he is your body. the soul that suffered from being its body. ~aristotle, de anima?
Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. trans W. Kaufman. 1966: p34

The body is our general medium for having a world. Sometimes it is restricted to the actions necessary for the conservation of life .. at other times, elaborating upon these primary actions and moving from their literal to a figurative meaning, it manifests through them a new core of significance: this is true of motor skills such as dancing. Sometimes, finally, the meaning aimed at cannot be achieved by the body’s natural means, it must then build itself an instrument, and it projects thereby around itself a cultural world.
Merleau-Ponty, Phenom of Perception, trans C. Smith. 1962: p146

been thinking about the cultural world. and more broadly, civilization. man's artifacts.
what of it do I like? thinking, you know, of "danos" the chorus in Antigone I see the terror - the wantonness, all these starbucks trinkets manufactured & sold & trashed -- and not the marvel. but sitting in starbucks I do like hearing the R&B standbys.
I like music. (and dance). unlike poetry, and visual art, it makes me feel things. it changes things.
I like hypertext, as an activity, an interface. so that's cultural, societal, civilization, technology as they say.
waste management esp of body waste. electricity. achievements, useful, yes.
buildings are impressive. there, danos: man the builder. always I think of that and feel that yes that is something, all these buildings!
