"We want to be gods. have to live plural marriage. plural marriage is a great refiner of the soul."-Randy Maudsley. His 4 wives say that they have fun - get along well and easily - when at home together; it's just harder when they are together with Randy there, bcs "you don't want to get lost in the crowd." but it helps that "Randy is good at making each of us feel special, feel that we have value to him."

etc:
We met a bunch of real tough guys, "men who match these mountains", said one - Big Randy Maudsley. And he did look quite rocky as he masterfully pushed a trolley through the supermarket, followed by his two wives, Sam and Paddy. It was difficult for him, poor dear, when "Paddy and I left Sam while we went on our honeymoon. Paddy wanted to go home and calm Sam down." But Randy stood firm. His second wife was clearly ill at ease when she recalled her wedding day. "I'll never forget the look in Sam's eyes," she said. Sam was still obviously devastated but she's "working on being the best wife I can for Randy".
The effect of the second union on Sam's beautiful daughter, Leah, was also obvious. "I knew it would happen," she said, "but I never thought it would be so soon. I felt for my mother."
Watching Leah's doubtful acceptance of plural marriage, the depressing thought occured that in 20 years' time she'll probably be as resigned and as unhappy as her mother.
Randy, whose name seems, these days, more wishful thinking than descriptive, talked cheerily about his sex life, with which I won't bore you. Suffice it to say he feels like less of it than he used to. The girls never said how they felt.
"If the whole world had plural marriage," said Randy, "there would be no more reason for prostitution" - a view which depends, of course, on your definition of prostitution. He quoted Brigham Young: "If all women obeyed their husbands, there'd be no more wars" - the logic of which escaped me, I'm afraid.
All the men interviewed seemed confident, but the women were a dispirited and glum lot - smiling manically when they said how happy they were. wow this is fascinating.
