How to Begin .. In Studio
I like this lesson six a lot I love, had not thought of: "If you can write, you already know how to draw." marks of writing handwriting is drawing.
Lesson 6: Start With a Pencil
marks /// Don’t worry about drawing. Just make marks. Tell yourself you’re simply diagramming, playing, experimenting, seeing what looks like what.
If you can write, you already know how to draw; you already have a form of your own, a style of making letters and numbers and special doodles. These are forms of drawing, too.
While you’re making marks and drawing, pay attention to all the physical feedback you’re getting from your hand, wrist, arm, /int/ ears, your sense of smell and touch. How long can your mark go before you seem to need to lift the pencil and make a different mark? Make those marks shorter or longer. Change the ways you make them at all, wrap your fingers in fabric to change your touch, try your other hand to see what it does. All these things are telling you something. Get very quiet inside yourself and pay attention to everything you’re experiencing. Don’t think good or bad. Think useful, pleasurable, strange.
Carry a sketchbook with you at all times.
Cover a one-by-one-foot piece of paper with marks. /so, a square. larger scale than paper. like a canvas ? painting maybe here using just to try a space of material bigger than paper. ~ bolder, maybe.// But don’t just fill the whole page border to border, edge to edge. (Way too easy.)
Think about what shapes, forms, structures, configurations, details, sweeps, buildups, dispersals, and compositions appeal to you. // form. structure. configure. sweep. build-up.. disperse. compose. compose. configure. ~ "I have taken oblong and placed upon a square. ... my triumph." my great work. work. master piece. mastery.
material /// Now do this on another surface, any surface, to know what kind of material appeals to you. Draw on rock, metal, foam-core, coffee cups, labels, the sidewalk, walls, plants, fabric, wood, whatever.
Just make marks; decorate these surfaces. Don’t worry about doing more. All art is a form of decoration //hmm//.
ideas, what think when there /// Now ask someone what ideas they get when they look at what you’ve made. They’ve just told you more about what you’ve already done. If the other person sees it in your work, it’s there.
//di piero ~ "not re sophisticated or not but, is it intense enough th want live there?"
intense ~ ideas, thought feeling. exciting. sth happening.

Once in a Lifetime: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince | HuffPost | producer Jimmy Jam 2016 re Prince: He out-talented everyone by so much. In sports, it’d be like Michael Jordan. He walks into the gym and he’s the most talented player; that’s how Prince was. He walked in and he was more talented than everybody...He’d come to rehearsal, work with us, go work with his band, then he’d go to his studio all night and record. The next night he’d come to rehearsal with a tape in his hand and he’d say, ‘This is what I did last night!’ and it’d be something like ‘1999.’”

The Westing Game
We All Must Play “The Westing Game” | Public Books |
A later middle-grade classic, Louis Sachar’s 1998 Holes, opens in what is essentially an homage to Sunset Towers: “There is no lake at Camp Green Lake.” // ~ ? ~ Sunset towers ~ everyone knows sun sets in the west. but sunset towers faces east. //
Sachar’s book [Holes], however, is both more stridently dark and finally more heroic; the traduced and abused children fight back and win.
Raskin [The Westing Game], true to her moment, is less certain of how, or if, final victory comes. [char] Turtle Wexler, the angry, whip-smart stock-market-aficionado-in-braids whom most readers finally /hmm only in the end// identify with, thinks she can outwit the game.
But she also cries out helplessly //(I think ~ like ~ in the garden //, at a pivotal moment: “Why is everybody lying?” // ("Why hast thou forsaken me?" y lying is forsaking? not being there not being with //
Being smart is not necessarily a refuge.
.. Don’t trust Uncle Sam? Your only recourse is to hope Uncle Sam fixes everything.
The novel’s ambiance of unappeased suspicion, however, cuts against the contented conclusion of the game plot. Raskin wrote herself into what now, 40 years later, I’d call an ideological bind, a dissonance between plot and tone. In this she was capturing her post-Bicentennial moment even better than she had planned. An inexorable and creepy optimism descends to solve, without resolving, the antagonisms that have simmering under the surface all along. Don’t trust Uncle Sam? Your only recourse is to hope Uncle Sam fixes everything.
//tone ////vs//// plot.
suspicion contented (satisfying) conclusion (resolution, of game)
antagonisms under surface. /and fr this {truer} point of view: and “inexorable, creepy - “ - optimism
distrust in [the nation/collective/society] against actual belief, perception; a reliance on and therefore coerced attitude of - hope
the difference between the rules that structure a game and the rationale for those rules, a challenge for the intellect that still quietly insists that winning games isn’t all that it seems.

The Congress (2013 film) - Wkp | Abrahama City is an animated zone, where individuals are required to use chemicals to become animated avatars of themselves, entering a mutable illusory state; they can become anything they want to be. .... This is a movie about that. It is a very good movie, but it really doesn't matter that it's good because it's very, very important and would be well worth watching even if it were bad.
Look at the distribution of reviews it's 'U'-shaped, which ought to be intriguing to you.
Some people will find this movie confusing and scary and uncomforting. There's a heartbreaking scene, filled with pity, in which Robin returns to reality and walks among people like that, realizing who and what they are for the first time. No difficult narratives for them. No discomfort, no boredom, no leaving the well-beaten movie track. //? the unanimated ‘real’ ppl? are the unaware ones? //

In Danko, he had the perfect complementary player, one of the finest bassists and one of the gentlest souls. His music was subtle, his instinct for just the right note unwavering – he could play one beat in four bars, but lord could he make it count.
Their subtle, intense rhythmic conversation brought shape and distinction to the Band's music – it gave it heart and soul.[30]

-sistermagpie: But then what's weird is it seems like this second marriage, the one he had to work through issues to get to, is far colder than the first marriage was. Stan still seems kind of befuddled to find himself talking to her when she appears in his house and even last season the whole thing seemed arranged by Renee--something broke in her place so she had to "move in" for a while (and never left), she appears at the gym and has all the same interests as Stan, etc.
-Erin9: I sure would like there to be some explanation on why Renee and S/R have no substance. Especially on a show where it is all about marriage. //and cmmt re m more re his ex wife substantv real char. sandra.
-Ellaria Sand: two possibilities:
1) They hired Laurie Holden, made her Stan's love interest (OK, that's fine) and gave her nothing of interest to do while creating a faux mystery around the character
2) Hired Laurie Holden, had her pretend to fall in love with Stan while doing secret spy work that will have an impact on the end game.
Either one of these sound like terrible choices by the writers yet this is basically what we are choosing between

-For his funeral?
-At this point, Renee is going to be confirmed as an undercover operative for one three letter organization or another, or this is the most epic troll job by showrunners that has ever happened.
The Americans Have A New Awareness Of The Fragility Of Human Life | Previously.TV |
Renee checks the mail .. Stan's excited for her, and when she nervously asks what she'll be asked about, he assures her that it's the same kind of thing that would come up wherever she interviewed, plus whether she's "a loyal American, and if [she] can keep a secret." She sure as hell seems to have nailed the latter. What! Is! Her! DEAL?!

The first six statements
- There is something to be told about us for the telling of which we all wait. In our unwilling ignorance we hurry to listen to stories of old human life, new human life, fancied human life, avid of something to while away the time of unanswered curiosity. We know we are explainable, and not explained. Many of the lesser things concerning us have been told, but the greater things have not been told; and nothing can fill their place. Whatever we learn of what is not ourselves, but ours to know, being of our universal world, will likewise leave the emptiness an emptiness. Until the missing story of ourselves is told, nothing besides told can suffice us: we shall go on quietly craving it.

Ways to reduce memory usage on Mac (and free up your RAM). | macpaw |
Sep 27, 2017 ( Updated: Mar 1, 2018 )
Activity monitor. Memory pressure. wh it all means. ..
If your graph is all but red and yellow, your Mac is really gasping for fresh memory. /*?? "all BUT red & yellow" ?? ??? <<<
/maybe means if it is red and yellow. both bad. (wld guess red worse.) mine yellow. high memory pressure.
Tip # 3. Clean up your Desktop
—CLEAN UP DESKTOP *Thing is, your macOS was designed in a way that it treats every Desktop icon as a little active window. // !!! huh! // I hope this d n also mean apps in dock. no, right? //
The more icons, the heavier memory usage on Mac. // mine are almost all text edit but still. and some pics, not big files, pngs old pics less high mb, grab screenshots. wld just mean active windows = running the app Preview ?
////////// so, am clearing. new folder then will put in Documents. or on own in dock:
* 20180505 FROM DESKTOP check for important notes reminders! see comments re why clearing
* clearing because mac os treats desktop items as active windows : macpaw.com/how-to/reduce-memory-usage-on-mac
Tip # 3. Clean up your Desktop. This tip always comes at the bottom of instructions and unfairly so as ** it is quite effective. ** The more icons, the heavier memory usage on Mac. So in order to release available memory resources, it’s recommended to keep your Desktop clean.
** Thing is, your macOS was designed in a way that it treats every Desktop icon as a little active window.
// !! good to know! even though ~ mine are mostly text edit. files small kb. and I do not see text edit etc per activity monitor in high memory or cpu usage but still... do have pics as well, not big ~ png .. and Grab screenshots.
Tip # 6. Free up disk space if Mac is low on memory
The available space on your Mac’s drive translates into virtual memory. This comes to save you when you’ve run out of physical RAM. So now your computer relies on your hard drive space to keep your apps going.
The classic geek rule of thumb holds it that you should keep at least 20% of disk space fn your startup drive.
keeps your Mac speedier.
But here’s a simpler solution to save your time — clean up your drive with CleanMyMac 3. The app is free to download. Many users recommend it as an excellent way to free up more space because it automatically searches for large & old files and shows everything you can safely delete. Interestingly, it finds about 74 GB of junk on an average computer.
// ok I guess never used this app, so maybe try. shows wh can safely delete. shows big files probbbbably iphoto.
had used various well maybe two disk cleaner programs, d n like…
What else you can do to minimize memory usage on Mac
— Replace AdBlock (very memory-demanding) with a lighter extension
// oh... (but is it not saving fr running big busy ads? ?? (maybe not) <<<
—Keep fewer opened tabs in browser /welll this is wh I want to have room *for*

Dear Commentators (and Judges) - thank you for those moments when you give me a zillion other links to follow down rabbit holes! I just returned from a deep dive on Christine de Pizan & Jean de Maun among others. Always love the suggestions this community throws out for my edification!

Somehow, How a Person Should Be will end up in the final.

https://themorningnews.org/article/the-rooster-summer-reading-challenge-week-12
I went with Fever Dream mostly because it was the only one that stuck the landing for me. I think the short length really helped this one, the author did not do too much. This one really lingered and left a lot of good unanswered questions.
Tough choice, I'd really like to see =The Night Ocean= and =A Separation= make the tournament, both were really well done books, and both have stuck with me. And maybe it is just some proximity effect, but I voted for =Fever Dream=, which I also really enjoyed. It may be a little unfair, because I think =The Night Ocean= kept surprising over a much longer length, and I felt the (sadly not on the ballot) =A Separation= was subtle and most rewarded a careful thinking about. But I did think =Fever Dream= handled itself really well, in the mixing of technological catastrophe with mystical catastrophe, in the sustained tension, and in the fever dream like quality of the writing (although I guess that's not a very direct translation of the original title).
