yale-harvard game gilmore episode is really good.
bcs of so much time with Emily and Richard - the fun flask, the bloody marys, Richard so happy cheering and singing with Yale boys. and I like Marty a lot here. Lorelai as always great. what's great is seeing the four gilmores toasting Dan, seeming like a family, and then... pennilyn lot - lorelai talks to her outside the womens room, and when emily is angry, lorelai is still just as friendly to her "did you see the 40 yr old son?" - but then emily starts ordering her help to get celery and doilies, and emily asks whats wrong... and richard is acting loving toward emily "I just want to be here dangerously close to my wife" - but then she starts in: how did pennilyn lot know lorelai is opening an inn? (she overheard her ask lorelai about it) and it comes out that richard has been meeting pennilyn for lunch once a year since forever - 39 years, that's how long emily says richard has been lying to her.
and here's the great scene: Lorelai immediately reaches out to Emily, sympathetically reassuring her. lovely Lorelai. but Emily, true to character, turns on her: why did you have to talk to pennilyn lott? I told you over and over not to? -you told me once -you are so stubborn, if you had just not talked to her, everything wld be fine -you're blaming this on me? -you weren't even supposed to come! wow.
so Lorelai goes and calls Jason to accept his offer for dinner. and then this whole date is very well done, too. realistic bad date - lorelai doesn't like the quiet room at the restaurant, so they leave, everything is bad, they stop for drivethru but jason doesn't get any bcs he dsnt like junk food, so lorelai doesn't want hers either, "it isn't fun" does everythig have to be fun? when I'm on a date, yes. exactly this is the un-fun date, that simply goes bad and stays there. they go to a grocery store and are even out&out arguing but eventually things get a bit better. I think the dynamic with Jason is pretty good, don't know why lots of viewers seemed to dislike it. have I typed out this kind of 'recap'for the purpose of appreciation before, for exactly this episode? talking about how they leave the drive-thru, I have a sense of repeating - I think I did! this very episode, here on dlww. below somewhere... consistency of maro.

(yay it's on the dvd I own)
watching it now on 9:30 ABCfamily showing 'in syndicate' they call it.
