Feed the Machine: "Friday Night Lights," "Veronica Mars," uh, Ted Danson?: Tuesday was also the premiere of 'Friday Night Lights,' perhaps the biggest surprise of the new fall season in terms of the quality being unexpected. I may never watch this through the whole season, but I liked the first two episodes. What did you think of the pilot? I'm also concerned that too much hype may kill it. I mean, the New York Times - love the paper, laugh at and loathe its TV criticism - nearly went into an apoplectic fit on the greatness of 'Friday Night Lights' (though I thought the review had to be satire for most of it, but, sadly, it was not). Friday Night Lights -Review by Virginia Heffernan- New York Times: Lord, is “Friday Night Lights” good. In fact, if the season is anything like the pilot, this new drama about high school football could be great — and not just television great, but great in the way of a poem or painting, great in the way of art with a single obsessive creator who doesn’t have to consult with a committee..it could belong in a league with art that doesn’t have to pause for commercials..“Friday Night Lights” is a wonder. It’s a big drama, and even seasoned pilot skeptics will have a hard time not getting choked up at tonight’s episode. “Friday Night Lights” might just bring old NBC the state championship.
