Clipmarks - Learn More
this is nice. the permalink shows the content that the user clipped. so the emphasis is on showing something, not directing to a site. on specific content, not on announcing a source.*
and then there are comments, a discussion of what is shown. nice.

*
really, I keep being struck by this. the link to the source site is discrete, it's remarkably not the point. one clip I just read from the front page was clipped from: mail.google.com ie I guess fr the clipper's email. (wh of course cannot access, the link just goes to gmail's login page)]

and like Digg and reddit, there's a voting system, to highlight make popular clips. Pops give users editorial control over the site. When a user pops a clip, it shoots to the top of the site for everyone to see. The collective act of popping creates a real-time filter that promotes the clips that the community finds most interesting. Only clips under 2,000 characters can be popped. (What are pops?)
hmm, note that unlike dlcs and other bkmrkg sites, here there is no "also clipped by" because each clip is unique. (though there must be clips from the same sites, even the same passages -- does the site allow you to see related clips?)

as example of a user's clips to browse -
Clipmarks - LGagnon's clips

below, cmmt by John T on Robin Good review:
Clipmarks - not just link marking, but clipping, and each item has a permalink so it's a true link blog, and not a link log. huh? oh I see, meaning the content is saved, not just the link. Plus they are heavy into comment streams. good, where are those? (ok I see, on the permalink page).
then, my dlcs marks:
Strange Clouds | Clipmarks an example - ok yeah maybe this is awesome - this is a permalink to the clip. incl comments. and of course a link to the site 'clipped from.'
Clipmarks - Bite-size highlights of the web. ok, could be nice for browsing. and now I've learned that you can collect other people's clips there in yr account, so if I do like browsing, that is a reason to join, rather than posting all of them to dlcs. I think. and maybe use? cf NetSnippets ~ is the main difference that these post to a website rather than saving to yr hardrive (fr wh can then post) ? I prob prefer to post to a site...
