revme.livejournal - Fakefilter: Basic Idea -- (via refi Aug 20 2006 2:06 PM "And here's some bonus off-site commentary, from Livejournal.") :

Louis Wain was a highly-successful illustrator who painted cats for prints and books neat kitten book (with Italian & Portuguese pop-up translation available); however, Wain also suffered from Late-Onset Schizophrenia, and as the illness took hold, his art changed; his subjects were still cats, only much more disturbing.

"Wain was boarding a London bus when it swerved to avoid a cat, throwing the artist onto the road. Recovering from concussion in hospital, Wain's first words on regaining consciousness were: 'The cat, the cat! Is the cat all right?'"
