6-21: "Made In America" 2007.06.10 -Sopranos - TWoP Forums:
--Just a reminder: Make sure you keep your discussion to what you thought of the episode.
NOT how you are 'surprised at all the hate' or 'surprised at all the love'.
NOT what 'everyone' in the thread seems to think.
NOT how everyone who loved/hated the ending is stupid or a fool.
NOT how many posts are in the thread.
This thread is going to be huge. Following the guidelines above will make every post worth reading, and make the thread as a whole more manageable. Thanks for your help in that regard.
well, 111 pages tonite within a day ~ not yet 24 hours after thread opened. huh, wow, this long reminder post appears at top of every page? yep. well that helps make the thread long.

-whaappen? Whaappen?
-What the fuck was that ending? Did I miss something?
-Don't stop! Best. Ending. Ever.
-I thought my cable had cut out though. I was yelling at the TV.
-So the final episode just leaves us with a feeling of dread, cubed? The family's final fate will never be shown to us? I yelped "Whaaat?" at the screen, but I think I actually admire the audacity of it now.
-I think the internet just exploded.
-you gotta admit: the number of red herrings was impressive, even for Chase. Every pause, every character walking across the frame, scared the shit outta me.
-Chase was playing with us. Everyone who came into that restaurant, we thought he'd off Tony. Esp. the two black guys. And we thought Meadow would get hit crossing the street.
-Just a reminder that every minute of Tony's life -- or ours -- could end without warning.
-msrobins:Tell me someone!!!! Did Tony walk in and see himself? huh?
-Jesus, that was the single tensest scene I've ever watched. Every time the music crescendoed, every time someone walked into the bar, every time Meadow got closer to parking the car...
We just got played, everyone. And I love it.
-msrobins: did Tony see himself? I am going to my aunt's house that has Tivo. msrobins is funny.
-Mini recap: Phil is whacked after NY's underlings make peace with NJ. Series ends at a restaurant, with family gathered around table. I mean, the four of them. heh: the family.
-On the one hand, I admire the ballsiness of Chase in giving us that particular ending. The other hand, though, is too busy giving the middle finger
-I see we were not alone when we yelled at the cutoff. David Chase flipping off the viewers, perhaps?
- I'm trying to find some of the poignancy ala Angel's finale, but all I got is "Why'd the cable go out?"
-We've been given a peek into Tony's world for the past few years. I can live without closure just for the splendid mindfuck of the last dread-soaked scene in the diner. That's the way they have to live for the rest of their entire shallow, greedy, self-involved lives. Just brilliant.
-You could have parked a 747 in that spot.
that's funny. this just by itself, apropos of no other comment. (re Meadow having trouble parallel parking outside the diner).
-
Way to go! When does Season 7 start?!!!
-It was the perfect ending. The show was all about the build up. Very rarely did we get episodes like last week - so bloody and exciting. It was the build up that we loved and hated. And that ending was the ultimate build up. This ending was in the same vein as the rest of the show - us waiting for some action. Bravo! Well done!!
-So did the show end with the jingle of the door and then the screen went dark without showing Meadow walk in? I thought my cable went out.
ok I've looked thru first 7 pages ...mmm I like reading all the reactions. ..peeking at p8-

-I read an interview Chase gave where he said something like people may not like the ending but I don't care. I agree that the last scene wa extremely tense. i half expected that diner to be somewhere in middle America and a fade out showing Tony had turned state's evidence.
-Okay, somebody help us. Our cable actually *did* go out -- twice, I think. that's funny. First, when Tony was visiting Junior, he leaned forward and said, "Our thing..." and we lost about 10 seconds. What did Tony say? And then, again, at the very end, but before everybody else. Meadow was parking and parking and parking, then we got a blue screen, then we got a black screen and credits. What happened? Did Meadow go into the restaurant? Did she sit down? Did the guy come out of the bathroom??
-I was sitting up in by bed with my comforter in my mouth saying - no, Chase wouldn't kill the whole family!! When the screen went to black I thought my power had gone off. I bolted out of my bed and ran downstairs in a panic. The lights were all on.

P111 (current last page)
-After much reflection here is my theory. There WAS a killing at the end of the show. When the screen went black, someone died. Who died you ask? You did. I did. or Tony did (us seeing from his perspective). Everyone who watched the show did. WE were the victims. Separated in the blink of an eye from our 'family'. Everything we cared about ripped away in that awful instant. And we go in utter blackness, total stillness. It's over. And we didn't hear it coming.
