edward norton in Amer History X -- yes, young with fuller cheeks & longish hair in the flashbacks, he looks very much like dohring. and when says to his laundry friend at prison that he has this crazy feeling that the only reason he is getting out in one piece is because of him -- "I know, stupid, right?" very like logan
sean penn -- in Dead Man Walking and in Mystic River. first rate acting. hot.
also kevin bacon in The Woodsman and perhaps nicolas cage who rg tells me is a method actor. in Leaving Las Vegas.
and I really like talkative angry dennis leary as tommy gavin in Rescue Me.

and actresses, what women seem serious and very good in this way? maybe the two marys. mary stuart masterson (iggie in fried green tomatoes, june in benny & june, ...).
mary louise parker (rose in fried green tomatoes but I did not notice her much there, when saw her in saved I had her conflated with stuart masterson, now I have paid her her due because of Weeds. and she was very good in Robber Bride as charismatic crazy.)

8/11 I also like Justin Kirk a lot, the brother-in-law in Weeds. he's not tough, and not evidently method-y, he is expressive with face & hands in a way that may be similar to jason dohring - he reminds me very much at some moments of someone, I think it's when his eyebrows are up? and maybe it's luke perry but that does not seem satisfying. since that would be mostly the long face not the character, bcs wasn't luke perry as dylan in 90210 just always (melo)dramatic?
oh and in the tough guy hot mode is McNulty in The Wire. ~ Dominic something? great face.
