make a story - an arrangement of stories -- about animals.
Menagerie, inconsolable. the giraffe weeping,
the horse drinking.
[Machine by Peter Adolphsen] The horse opened its mouth and started talking there is a giraffe weeping and they have been here all along with you Menagerie and I understood everything, even though it wasn't speaking in English or any other human language. The language of the horse was one modulated sound with myriad meanings, associations, and overlapping images. In my cleansed and possibly unconscious state , I understood that it was telling me the story of the fate of its heart.
the horse at the lake, the fright, the run, the fall, cradled by roots of an upturned tree, the dirt loosening, then-
reminds me of Giraffe, of which I have only read the beginning because while lovely it feels so sad.

..a contribution toward understanding Australian Aboriginal culture. erotic activity & belief. through medium of traditional songs. two song cycles in long-verse structure and a series in key-word stule. mytho-ritual themes. song-poetry hauntingly beautiful. haunting, familiar ~ unfamiliar, uncanny. in two main cycles, love linked directly with wider world of nature, with change and transformation and, by implication, fertility and procreation among all living things in that world.

Why Birds Sing. a journey into the mystery of bird song. by David Rothenberg. April 2005 Perseus 046507135x. Advance Uncorrected Proof. taken for the colors of the cover, the bird. perhaps also for the title, I like direct question. in intro: this book may present too many stories to offer a rigorous argument in philosophy, but remains close to field I first studied in sense that I may love the questions more than the answers. humble qstn Why do Birds Sing?..what sorts of thinking animals might do, to what extent we can communicate with them, which of our human abilities are best suited to enter the minds of other species? pleasure in song may be sth humans and birds can share. ..information does not really touch experience. birds certainly sing to find love and to find home, but these reasonable purposes do not deny joy.
rhythic click-like sounds of sperm whales. couldn't identify individual whales - too many overlapping rhythms. same problem Western listeners have when first hear large ensemble of tight West African drummers. how each player maintains individual rhythms amid great mix of patterns & beats. rel to above, aboriginal love song cycles?
