I like Brokaw's qstn the "if you will" Obama doctrine vs McCain docrine wrt US intervening in humanitarian crises when national security not at stake. as in Congo, or earlier in Rwanda.
Obama says we may not have security interest, but we have a moral one. says it is in national interest to prevent genocide. there is a lot of cruelty, we cannot be everywhere, that's why we need to be able to work w allies, and lead. eg Darfur.

glad to hear McCain says never again and also thinks need to act against genocide.
McCain "we need a cool hand at the tiller." oh boy I sure think Obama seems better than McCain as a cool hand. as andrew sullivan keeps posting about, Obama's cool calm has been wonderfully on display on this campaign while McCain has seemed a loose cannon, with one surprise crazy move after another.
