trying ggl reader, subscrip to andrew sullivan daily dish. seems to work for what I want, avoid the browser stalling up as it seems to when I load the actual daily dish page. plus, posts are shown in whole, whereas on his own page you often must go to the permalink just to view a little bit more content.
also, ggl reader envt suits me better for scanning, not getting as bogged down - a lot of wh is bcs I take a looong time fitting notes in wh I mark sth on dlcs & have bn marking a lot. this way, can feel that it's there (~mine~ I have it all) & easily searchable (~more so than searching his site) . so, dlcs mark less of his posts fr here out, only ones of more specific int to me.
in ggl reader: can do my marking, my making my own of what I read, by tagging things there, using stars for what may want come back to, use "share" to make note (can't put note unless sharing - I suppose bcs it is a feed until you take sth and 'post' it)
.............10/16 ggl reader not pleasing me for this.
-cannot rename tag.
+tags (created as labels for indiv items) appear as folders (into wh sort feeds) - why? why wld I want the same labels for folders, sorting my feeds as for tags, sorting the indiv items? is this a bug?
-cannot edit notes on shared items! eh. (found others saying this too so I d n think just missing sth
-cannot move around among the feed, or tagged items, or shared items, the way I want to . keeps being frustrating. I want to find an item in the feed to tag it. if I search, it comes up in a view I can't operate on: cannot tag there.
I wonder about all these various google services that are forms of saving/collecting and-or publishing information:
#blogger (which they acquired)
#google sites - wh I have never used. allows you to make a site diff in form fr a blog? more static. ?
#google notebook - wh I have used for notes on specific topic, twd specific end.. - can make notebook 'public' if you want
#gmail, which you can also use for notes, and can star, can search.
#google reader, in wh can star & tag. -can 'share' items, with or without notes you add, and these shared items are ~published/ 'posted' to a page, the url of wh you cld advertise as a site.
so blogger, ggl site, ggl notebook that is public, ggl reader shared items page --- these all function as ways to publish on a web page. why have these as separate? what are their diff uses, diff functionalities?
ok I speculate that ggl sites lets you make a page that is diff from a blog.
ggl reader brings content to you, & then gives you the functionality of being able to share/post it.
ggl notebook works like a social bookmarking tool, where you can mark and note any webpage you are on (and it resides in the browser to allow this).
seems wld be better to have these be more integrated ~ ? or maybe just have features common across all of them. wh they have done with their stars. but tags are not well developed, fr wh I've seen, in ggl notebook or ggl reader. should be able to replace one tag with another. and drop&drag functionality should be across board, eg when viewing items w certain tag, shld be able to drag them around to change the order, rather than fixed in an order corresponding to when you tagged them --int, not the order in wh material orig published - wh is the same as dlcs, but in context of ggl reader, seems shld stay in same order when tagged as when viewing all, since you are working within the same environment where the items arrived in order as posted by the authors. but, any case, best if could rearrange.
so: improve tag features. make elements all re-arrangeable as they are on igoogle homepage and in notebook.
could read other takes on this, comparisons of these ggl services.
maybe at google operating system blog and that other blog that follows google ~by Phil sth.
..mostly ppl calling for integratn ggl notebook & ggl reader. & for better integration of features across bkmrkg (wh ggl also has, now part of their toolbar), notebook, reader shared pages.
are these not integrated because diff ggl teams developing prjoects separately??
More Google Products - Communicate, show & share
#knol - which is modeled on another site wh ppl publish articles called 'lens'es ~ wkp-like. ggl says: "share what you know." a knol = 'a unit of knowledge' rather than a 'wiki'
"Peer-reviewed encyclopedia from Google. Articles are written by named contributors."
dlcs-others: Google's answer to Wikipedia; google's own version of wikipedia .. although not as popular ..I don't think they are going to steal away Wkp's success...why note? wkp had the advantage of being well into the game already, having a big active community. (ggl first pgmrkd dlcs-others July 2008) but what other reasons? better design?
