"Lost's" penultimate was like a thematic episode
"'What They Died For' is a lot of things," says Todd VanDerWerff. "It's a fantastic episode of 'Lost,' one that moves like a rocket. cool. It's a big, relatively well-handled infodwnld ok good bit I saw did seem stayed w conversatn when I tht wld not show us (eg Jacob's "sit down & I'll explain it all)that makes sure we know how everything & everyone fits into the big picture, mostly. It's an episode that makes sure everyone is in place for the finale. It's a reminder that even though the show is going to do 'did' big mythology episodes now & again, it's always going to return 'returned' to the characters we loved from the regular cast. It makes a big case for the flash-sideways as being completely necessary to the series' narrative. it did? ok I must really hv missed a fair bit In some ways, it's an episode that makes last week's "Across the Sea" seem retroactively much more important (and I'll be very surprised if the finale doesn't make it seem even more important)."
Ben is the new Man in Black [peteramescarlin*] (hmm?)// What a perfect setup for the finale [hitfix sepinwall]
This week's episode made up for all the "half-dozen stinkers" this season [slate]
Jimmy Fallon asks, "Kate or Juliet?": "Both at the same time," says Matthew Fox [vid: intense qstns skit]

*peteramescarlin -Lost in Translation: Have you ever heard about the Midnight Rambler?
A surfeit of goodness somehow leads to evil. Weird, huh? And yet, somehow, an essential, inescapable truth. The white side must have its dark other side. Yin and yang. Up and down. The Beatles and the Stones.
re Ben as new MiB,int to recall Ben greeting Jack, at Locke's coffin. "it's dark, Jack. very dark." loved that line.
and they have to take Locke's body. (have we learned why Ben thought that? just, in order to get back? per Eloise, have to have Locke on the plane to make it more like flight 815, a corpse wearing Christian Shepherd's shoes. ~well.
so Ben and Jack together working to go back, to get the O6 to go back.
and there's a striking difference btw Ben & MiB, who has always wanted to get off the island. Ben always wants to be there, wants it to be his island. right? so, okay, could be that Ben will represent a dark force to Jack's force of light, maybe. a rather different dynamic, though. what would Ben be trying to do?

re this epsd, read:*Tuned In. (Sepinwall.) TvdW. ~zap2it. **DocJ.

Judges seemed hellbent on pumping up Lee to "Idol" viewers [Salon - re Final 3 performance] y they did [tvtattle.com/2010/05/19/9800 permalink]
+ re Idol: twopJacob, DFienberg, Tunedin. done done done. Jacob vs DFienberg rather strikingly diff rxns ~ eg, Jacob re Travis whoever performance "may have to check out his record ~ well played" where Fienberg totally snarkily dismissed.
