media catch up

media catch up =copy=

media catch up   (post-move)

bks:
tmn tob       read comments, check out list for next year..  *
final was kate atkinson Life After Life v jms mcbride Good Lord Bird wh won

((K Atkinson book sounds well done, though character 'Ursula' oddly seems ~too much~ to recall to my mind fr P&P seminal year 1995-96 Stones From the River by Ursula Hegi.  odd, bcs just a character given name same as given (first) name author and both re Germany.  no one else wld make a cnnxn, right?   also I seem to hold it against Atkinson that I did n admire her when went to dinner along w ~Jana on evening of author event for her first bk Scenes fr the museum.  she seemed brash ~ uncouth? probably not even. just didn't move me to admiration.  some feeling like, oh this is an author.  the star of this dinner.  wide scarf, actual lady.  now perhaps I'd like her.  I do v m like Jackson Brodie, or esp Jason Isaacs as.  she is whatever else accomplished as a storyteller novelist.))

not esp int in those or most of the other 16 (17 bks total bcs play-in round btw 2 for one of 16 slots)

/fvr cmmtr past yrs whose absence I was wondering about was pleasantly-to-me asked about & pleasantly appeared to make pleasing cmmt seeming same view as me
tmn tob x March 26, 2014  Zombie Round  Donna Tartt - The Goldfinch z1  v.  1 The Good Lord Bird - James McBride:
-bradmcginty:   A number of factors have caused me to sit out most of this year.
 1. These books are terrible (for the most part).
 2. I am exceptionally busy this year at work.
 3. As the proto-hipster, I think this thing might be too big now that people are actually here.

in re  -Amateur Reader: Hey, where is McGinty?  -Neighbors73: I think he was uninspired by this year's books. -Amateur Reader: Inspired or not, his absence has been noted.

might like to read The Son

and am interested in At Night They Walk in Circles
/seemed of most appeal to me.  do believe cmmtrs that maybe not fine in execution.  but nonetheless more a book and a voice I'd care for, than other bks here?
need read that first round judgement and comments, plus rvws elsewhere.  *

tv:
had been watching ntflx Raising Hope.  fond affectionate.

watched a few hbogo movies?  oh- Killer Joe (2011)  dark.  trailer park. very much got in my mind   reminded of? ~ coen brothers ish? crossed with? like, natural born killers, no not really right.
watched bcs saw on hbogo & had been seeing matthew mcconaughey in true detective (entertaining but was not as fine to me as ppl seemed to be saying), int. /to see: Dallas Buyers Club. also Wolf Of Wall Str (main is leo dicaprio).  maybe Mud (2012).

watched Four Horsemen Now You See Me wh I enjoyed, esp beginning of, with the four doing their tricks.  (Isla Fisher ~ but other three I like distinctly.)  younger Franco a misdirectioning thief.  Woody Harrelson glib show-off hypnosis.  Jesse Eisenberg: a magician shld always be the smartest guy in the room.    //I think this is a pleasure in detective stories (along w wh is appealing about a mystery: "someone is looking for something, actively"), con stories (The Riches, Weeds), criminal stories (The Assassination of the Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), magician stories (The Prestige).  I guess also smart guy like good will hunting stories.
I like the intelligent head-to-side inquiring, watching charlie crews in Life.
I like vm sheriff lamb reading "Veronica Mars is smarter than you." /to watch: the VM movie is out.*
somebody sharp. //what's clear is that not much gets past you.//

and v much like re con grifters get-way-with-it-ers.
.....
The Prestige:  the very very long con.  your whole life.
the china man who pretended to be weak, always.  so could use strength only when doing trick ~ glass sphere held btw knees.
Christian Bale character Alfred Borden.  two people (albert , frederick) living one role.  living half a life. always. so cld use both bodies as same man only when doing trick: disappear in one spot (the turn), appear in another (the prestige). /the opening~gambit~  is "the pledge.")
Hugh Jackman as american Robert Angier.  (and Hugh Jackman as Gerald Root an actor playing as Robert Angier --- layers - versions, much of wh I like here, the density. the Christopher Priest book* into Christopher Nolan movie.  rivals, doubles, fronts. Albert/Frederick (*more in post below/back-dated). Angier, Borden. Tesla, Edison. Angier/clone.  (will I be the man in the box or the man in the balcony.  you are both.)   and then, finally, one last long con:
"You - are Lord Caldlow."  "I always was."
.....

now am through second watch of The Wire s1 and into s2.

The Americans.

PLL - recaps twopj
-- started to copy all for back half of s4 (?I think) since January bcs this week unexpected & unwelcome news that TWOP closing.  content gone as of Friday 4 April.  then yesterday evening news that NBCU will keep it online in archived form,  much better, thanks!

is it all twopj Jacob Clifton that I wld be sorry not have?
PLL, Gossip Girl, Weeds.  /at lst do have notes here dlww and dlcs/
and plus really his writing re any show.  recaps Amer Idol v good.  recaps Dr Who much praised.

also M Giant re Six Feet Under.  ~ "when this show says The End.."

wish also keeping forums up but no. will be up only til 31 May. so at least have a month to read and note, copy-paste.  comments from fvr posters.  who?  right now have Sister Magpie /in The Amers forum she refers ppl to discussion at ~dreamscape, saying: -There's a lot of, well, ME there /so check that out, her name is katya then maybe?/ in mind fr wh recent show?? this past fall did I watch?  wasn't true detective .. (wh jacob recapped and was w usual int writing but not esp fvr to me).  also have had fvr cmmtrs in past, look in dlcs.  again glad have saved a lot of fvr here and there.  whole conversations? re Kidnapped, here I think.  re Nip/Tuck early days dlww (fr twop? probably).  and maybe re Gilmore Girls..   was it her no ~ who did Parenthood first episodes, those were good.  something about "socks" is in my mind. either in recapper's name or something she was writing about.

also Couch Baron re vm. and terriers which is on his own blog, I was glad about that when all twop recaps were going to be gone.

also just v useful re detail on any show watching.  like right now The Wire.  or looking up for mom re The Americans episode.  ppl say lots of recaps across internet these days, much brought about by twop; sure a lot of morning-after sum and remarks re a show, but does any other site do in such detail?? recounting of all or nearly all that is shown.  so that reading recap really fills in for watching show.

and are there any other forums where so extensive and high signal a discussion?
avclub, sepinwall have decent comments but not much a conversation.

sad that videogum gone recently too.  clicked on it just in time to see announcement and goodbye-saying.  there it was like avclub comment humor not much conversation but the humor hit the mark for me more generally and there was friendly feeling.  and I liked the writing of kelly conaboy (funny) and v m of Gabe Delahaye (recently retired fr site - funny but also unabashed, serious, bold, distinct in forthright statement of own thinking.  so ah. he was the other one I was trying to recall, who would I put up there with or near to jacob clifton as fvr internet writing.  and now with each their site is gone, over.  still have own sites, will write new places.  good.  though not the same and it is a loss.)

was sorry to find videogum closing.

but televisionwithoutpity ! whole other level, as say.   so many years, so many shows, so much discussion.  seemed like what was there, at least, would be permanent.
