recent Metatalk

Apparently, we are collectively high quality authors catering to influential and highly engaged audiences with passion, integrity, and authority = Federated Media. John Battelle, Chairman and Publisher. FM looks for passion, integrity, authority, and strong community support in all the sites we invite into our network. An FM site has influence not because its author is well known, but because the author has earned the trust of an influential community.

I think I'm gonna go have a long cry now, in despair that the typical asshattery of MeFi is so much better than whatever the alternatives are, that it qualifies as "high quality &c."I mean, sure, I'm with mischief: I (sometimes? often?) try. But I hate to imagine that this is as good as it gets.

How many people go through a site's front door for anything any more? I can count the sites where I go to just plain www.sitename.com on one hand's worth of fingers (metafilter, slashdot, aldaily) and have two fingers left over for making rude gestures at for-pay sites.
