STEAMY CLEAN By LINDA STASI - New York Post Online Edition: Entertainment:
'Men in Trees' gives us a terrific cast of characters. There's Buzz (John Amos), the guy with the plane; Ben (Abraham Benrubi), the bartender with a past out of 'Lost'; Theresa (Sarah Strange), his ex-wife; Annie (Emily Bergl), the stalker; and Sara (Suleka Mathew) - and my favorite character - the town's single mother/hooker.
Finally, there's Jack (James Tupper), the forest ranger/environmentalist guy (I told you this is a fantasy!) who is TV's new McDreamy.
And it's a delight to report that the writing is so good, so clean and understated that it's a pleasure to behold (or is that beheard?).
hmm. saw last few min of 2nd episode (aired at rglr time 8c tonite, following re-airing of pilot) and enjoyed it so maybe. anne heche char Marin less annoying, although still dont like ending w voiceover. and yes james tupper is attractive and likeable. and there's a pretty dark haired woman I like, I think with the bartender , so maybe she's his ex-wife per above? and they still are sort of tgther? the bartender is nice too. "we take care of our own" - a town where there are plenty of "good men" - well I am a sucker for that kind of fantasy.

but Tom Shales for WashPost sure dislikes it. and uses 'baldly' in the article as well as the subtitle (my below post)
Heche's ‘Men in Trees’ is a TV hazard - washingtonpost.com
In a baldly unlikely turn of events, Ms. Frist gets booked on a lecture tour of one small town in Alaska, a hamlet obviously patterned after the quaint and quirky setting of "Northern Exposure," to continue our tour among the ghosts of television past. Why would a publisher go to the expense of sending an author all that way to address an audience numbering about two dozen? true enough, unlikely. ...he knows the marriage is definitely off when a raccoon inexplicably breaks into her hotel room, steals her $10,000 wedding dress and drags it down the muddy main street of town. Why would she bring the dress to Alaska? ok, true again. Please. ok. It might be explained in the script, but then your world-weary critic would have to go back and watch the thing all over again. ..
Even ignoring Heche's somewhat sleazy public past, she's not an actress who projects warmth or lovability on the screen. true that I keep thinking of her from that movie where she is crazy, gets a guy she meets online to kill her husband. that may be only thing I've seen her in - any case she was convincing as that kind of person. as to sleazy past -
well, I remember at Ebbco there being a book about (by?) her I think it was in the first room, on display, and I didn't know who she was and someone told me sth abt her as crazy and as (ex?)girlfriend of Ellen Degeneres. did I know who Ellen was? maybe had hrd sth abt her sitcom and how she came out on it. but I'd never seen it. now, I have seen bits of her talk show and fr it I like her pretty well, I like her humor timing maybe sth pier-ish? but havent known anyth abt her with Heche.

Ellen DeGeneres’s Ex (Anne Heche) Gets Hitched & Crazy - www.buzzle.com/editorials/9-4-2001 Anne Heche and Ellen DeGeneres began dating in April of 1997 and had a very public affair until August 2000. ..Heche met her husband on a documentary she was directing of her then lover’s return to stand up comedy. Shortly thereafter she appeared on a doorstep in Fresno, California mumbling incoherently. She apparently seemed to be under the influence of drugs (she later admitted it was Ecstasy) and was taken to a hospital and released after a few hours.
Heche seems to have her life back on track; marriage to Laffoon, a much talked about interview with Barbara Walters airing on Wednesday and her new book Call Me Crazy will hit bookstores this Thursday. Is that an appropriately titled book? It remains to be seen. ABCNEWS.com states she says that she was "insane" for a good part of her life. huh.
