In quirky Men in Trees, some welcome exposure for Anne Heche : South Florida Sun-Sentinel: A reasonable reaction to Men in Trees will be, "Oh, they're trying to do Northern Exposure again."
This should be followed by, "Great, as long as they do it well."

The light-hearted romp set in Alaska (but shot near Vancouver) was created by Jenny Bicks, a former head writer/executive producer of Sex and the City. read elsewh other producer is guy produced Walk the Line. Maybe she should have called her follow-up Sex and the Boonies. that's kinda good.
Anne Heche is a joy as Marin huh, squeezing every juicy bit out of Bicks' snappy script. Heche's unconventional background makes her all the more interesting. How many other TV stars have had romantic relationships with a former Oscar host (Steve Martin) as well as the next one (Ellen DeGeneres). ooh consecutive Oscar host-comedians.Heche doesn't duck her past. When she split with DeGeneres after 31/2 years and went back to men -- she's married with a child -- she wrote a biography titled Call Me Crazy. "Clearly, I've never had a life coach," she said with a smile on this summer's press tour.
...
if there's anyplace to start anew, it's Elmo. Practically everyone else there has reinvented himself or herself in some way. I wanna be with people all reinvented.
There's no May-December marriage, ala Holling and Shelly, but the town's saloonkeeper, Ben, has a strange relationship with his former wife, Theresa. ah ha, tht so. and Holling ran a restaurant, it feels similar. They continue to work together, he still loves her and she has feelings for him. She just doesn't want to be married with so many other prospects available.

Tim Goodman. The Bastard Machine : Strike one, looking. Or not. A review ("Men In Trees") and an excuse. won't be able to escape the "Sex and the City" meets "Northern Exposure" classification, but that's the world we live in./Romantic comedies are hard to do. Friday nights need good entertainment. "Men In Trees" satisfies both.
