Ain't It Cool News:
Motherfuckers!! According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has ordered a production halt for “Kidnapped,” Which is probably the best new show of the fall. The plan is for the show to shutter
aw - shutter after completing its 13th episode. NBC intends to air all 13. Reuters.com | NBC to pull plug on lowly rookie "Kidnapped"

see also - NBC picks up 'Heroes' for a full season well I'd've picked Kidnapped but Heroes is my next favorite and it's good in a different slightly less good way but very good in its way. and maybe a 13 episode Kidnapped will keep it tight though I bet they'd have done a tight 22 episodes anyway. and if they were already shooting 11th episode at time of premiere (said on live blog), is the 13 episode plan not alter any of the next 8 episodes fr what wld have been in full season? int. ... I hope release on dvd. shld make a fine 13 hour film. and, hey, maybe more watchable as a whole than 22 hrs wld have been. aw but it would have been nice for it to be a regular show, to see Knapp and Lindo in another situation next year... shucks.

-New York location shooting and a large ensemble of fairly well-known actors make something like this difficult to pull off, unless it's a hit out of the gate. out of the gate - this phrase was used twice on last night's episode of Kidnapped. fbi guy "these guys are pros, they killed one of their own right of the gate. that sends a mssg to anyone who might feel chatty." and bodyguard guy about the scene of the crime, maybe abt being outnumberd ~ "I knew that out of the gate."
-
at least nbc will give it
13 episodes, which is longer than most hbo seasons. i just hope "smith" stays alive. oh, and "the nine" fucking sucked.
-After watching the shitstorm that was "The Nine" last night I'm actually so pleased that others saw this as bad like I did, I can't believe they're actually cancelling "Kidnapped".
-I had a friend... by ejcarter9 ... no, really, I had a friend who, WAAAAY back in the 80s said that the problem with American tv is that they don't know when to stop. British tv does a 6 or 12 episode series and then stops. There'll be at most 5 or 6 years of it, but they don't overdo it. (We all know of the record-breaking exception, so don't bother.)
what? I donknow. I think American tv should do that: plan to produce only 13 episodes or 26 episodes and be done with the storyline. Think of all the interesting television that would be given a chance because of that. However, Americans are lazy (it's true... what are you doing right now, hmm? Lazy-ass), so keeping a ratings winner is a safer bet than putting something new on every couple of years, even though the actors are getting tired, the writers are getting tired and the paychecks spiral out of control.
-I'm in the airport last Thursday and 60 people are waiting 4 extra hours for the plane to arrive so we can get on it. The Office is on and I'm the only one watching. God, I love Jim and Pam. Anyway, I'm playing the Nintendo DS after the show when Deal or No Deal comes on. TWENTY PEOPLE RUSHED OVER OUT OF THEIR SEATS AND THEIR PRE-MADE LINES (Southwest A, B, C) TO WATCH THE DAMN SHOW! It's the most brainless show ever. I like this story, I like it beingtold in the present tense and I like that the scene is a Southwest departure gate.
-NBC really sucks. They bitch and moan about how they haven't had any series connect with people and they have a well done series in it's first 3 weeks and pull the plug? This show has a great cast and has taken a tired and overdone premise and breathed life in it. Sisto rocks in this by the way. Fuck you NBC. Just get it over with and give us 3 hours a night of Deal or Deal you fucking twits.
-if you read the news reports about these shows and their respective cancellations, there are recurring themes: they are all a)getting crushed in the ratings by some retarded reality show, b) going to be replaced by some retarded reality show, or c)all of the above. ..tv still has an abundance of worthy content, though..
-with a bit of effort this could have become NBC's 24, with a different case and name guest cast each season..
is that true of 24? (has it only run one season so far? no, must be through ~ 2nd yr, since a dvd's out..)
-these serials wld all do better if they just announced from the start that they would only last a season. if one becomes a hit, then bring back the best characters and write a whole new series for them. good.
-I say Good. It's about time networks make a one-season continuous story that actually resolves itself with absolutely no loose ends.
-Kidnapped has great characters, great subtle moments, great film work, the list goes on. Having said that, I have no problem with this being a 13 episode "miniseries" that wraps everything up at the end. I agree with the British - some shows, especially serial ones, should only last that long. Otherwise, it's a lot of padding. And let's face it, 24 is more guilty of that than anyone. As long as NBC sticks to their word and shows all 13.
-I liked Kidnapped. Jeremy Sisto really makes the show work. Sure, Knapp's in the tradition of Jack Bauer but there's something a bit more "documentary" feeling to him [huh. to -him-. int.], best that I can describe it. However, with the concept, I have to agree with a number of the critics who reviewed the show as well as a few that have mentioned it here that it's great for a long mini-series. Perhaps if the networks were bold enough, they could do cycles of these types of shows.
