Firefox 2.0 officially released today | Neural Gourmet: One change some people might not like is that every browser tab has a close button on it now. If you want to revert Firefox back to its' traditional behavior it's easy to do. Type 'about:config' into your address bar. Find the 'browser.tabs.closeButtons' option (use the filter bar at the top of the page), double-click it, change the value to '3' and click 'OK'.

A simple about:config tweak will change the way the ‘close tab’ button is displayed:

• Open a new tab and type about:config in the address bar and press enter
• In the filter field type (or scroll down list to find) browser.tabs.closeButtons
  
• Double-click on the entry and enter the corresponding number below:
  0 - Display a close button on the active tab only
  1 - Display a close button on each tab (default)
  2 - Don’t display any close buttons
  3 - Display a single close button at the end of the tab bar (Firefox 1.x behavior)

-Thanks for this. I installed Firefox 2 this morning and have spent all day closing tabs that I didn’t mean to cos I kept hitting the close buttons by mistake! yep yep when click to select tab. Now all I have to do is work out how to stop my tabs scrolling off the right, and get them bunching up like they used to…. yeah
-Thank you so much. Those new buttons were driving me crazy, as it was such a hassle to close a bunch of tabs quickly. right bcs it's fixed in its place.

To close a tab with the mouse, you click on the little ‘X’ button which appears on every tab. Trouble is, that the tabs shrink and stretch to fill the available space. So when you want to close many tabs all at once, the close-button keeps moving slightly to the left as the rightmost tab gets bigger and bigger to fill the available space. It’s like a game of whack-a-mole… spot where the close-button is now, hit it! Oh, where is it now? There! Hit it!… heehee whackamole
What’s the alternative? Well Firefox has a single close button, all the way over on the right hand side of the tab-bar. This button never moves, so if you want to close multiple tabs you just keep clicking it.
