"Gilmore Girls" cast & crew in shock after big-time deal is turned down
According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, "Multiple sources confirm that Warner Bros. recently made one final offer to Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel that included sizeable salary bumps for both in exchange for a shortened 13-episode season. As is now obvious, that offer was rejected. The show's cast and crew -- many of whom thought an eighth season was in the bag -- are said to be in a state of shock."
"Gilmore Girls" canceled after 7 years
Lorelai and Rory Gilmore will say goodbye on May 15 after the CW was unable to reach an agreement for an 8th season. As the L.A. Times reports: "Going into this season, it was widely known that the popular dramedy about a mother and daughter would carry on only if both Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, who play the fast-talking Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, wanted to extend their contracts. In recent weeks, there were rumors that the show would return for a 13-episode season to wrap up the series. According to a source close to the show, the network and the studio were unable to make a deal to keep the show alive."
Will "The Office" move to 9 o'clock? Will it be stretched to an hour?
NBC is seriously considering putting its hottest comedy in the legendary timeslot once occupied by "Cheers," "Seinfeld" and "Frasier," according to Variety. Separately, Forbes is reporting that Jeff Zucker and Kevin Reilly "are considering stretching 'The Office' to an hour and canceling the original 'Law & Order.'" Meanwhile, according to Variety, "one schedule scenario that would strengthen the comedy block as a whole would be for the net to place its best new comedy prospect in the 8:30 slot behind 'Earl,' and then shift 'The Office' to 9. '30 Rock' or a new show could go at 9:30."

"Veronica Mars" creator is trying to be optimistic about renewal
The odds are probably still against a renewal from the CW, but if "Veronica" returns, it could be with an entirely new premise, jumping several years ahead: Veronica Mars, rookie FBI agent.
..it became clear that renewal of the show's current college format was unlikely..
In the meantime, there's still the matter of those five remaining college episodes, which begin airing tonight (9 p.m., Ch. 11). Part of Thomas' previous plan to reinvent the show to make it more accessible, they all feature entirely self-contained mysteries, as well as some personal developments that will only be relevant in the extreme longshot chance that the CW keeps the show as is.
