--A tribute done with class!, February 16, 2003 Rizzo "MzRizz" (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews It was midnight and I stumbled upon a show called West 57th Sessions, from New York and unbeknown to me, what I was watching was a live performance of this tribute CD, "Return of the Grievious Angel." I managed to record the remaining 5 or 6 songs and hope to see it on video one day. With little familiarity to Gram Parsons, I was so taken by this tribute that was so well done, with fine musicians. Emmylou Harris, who sang with him before he died in the 70s so young, has kept his music alive and introduced him to new generations of music lovers.
On the show, I was introduced to Beck, I thought to myself..."who is this guy who sounds like Parsons?"***
****ah Evan Dando & the Lemonheads. I remembr fr early teen yrs (back in Kensington, happened upon on my own? did I join some sort of music club & there was this and also ShakespearesSister of sth?) the Lemonheads' It's A Shame About Ray.
Evan Dando - Wkp: born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 4, 1967 hey he has my birthday, 10 yrs earlier ... in 1987 led to the birth of the Lemonheads, after a candy which Dando noted was sweet on the outside, and sour on the inside, possibly a metaphor for the band's sound. ..produced the album Lovey in 1990. Straddling punk, rock, country, and metal, the album sold roughly 30,000 copies. Dando cut his losses and flew to Australia to write some songs with friends Nic Dalton and Tom Morgan. These songs formed the basis for It's a Shame About Ray, the Lemonheads' breakthrough album. However, a cover of "Mrs. Robinson" (recorded to promote the video release of The Graduate) was released to the annoyance of the band and brought them the most exposure they'd had so far. When the "Ray" album was reissued, the track was tagged on to the end. The band enjoyed quite a bit of success on college radio, and modest mainstream exposure. early 90s so yep that's HS for me. During 1992-1993, Dando's face appeared on many magazine covers. People magazine voted him one of the "Sexiest Men Alive." Dando continued to appear in the pages of the music press with the equally winsome Juliana Hatfield. with whom he sings on this tribute album.
