A Message from Rob Thomas - TWoP Forums:
slaverat: In case any of you doubted this, we read TWOP pretty religiously around the Veronica Mars offices. (Though I admit that I'm still thrown by a number of the abbreviations. I finally figured out that BSK stood for 'Back, Show Killer.' As I've produced/written two of those Paula Marshall shows, I feel somewhat responsible for her unfortunate nickname.) One of the other producers on the show likened reading the postings to getting hit with a tidal wave of love tempered by a million papercuts. hmm kinda wish those went together better so this d n stop me. would be weird to be getting papercuts while being hit by a wave. how bout we change papercuts to lots of nibble-bites from fishies. Let me say, first and foremost, thank you for watching, commenting on and caring about the show. I promise you, we value your feedback more than the overnights. (Though I would cut off a digit for a 5 share.) overnights =must= ratings. anyway, nice that he thinks (says) this.
Here's what I know about our chances for a second season. UPN, despite our low numbers, treats us like gold. Usually when a show is failing to do the numbers a network wants it to do, the network tries to 'fix' a show. UPN isn't tinkering with Veronica Mars. They have told us to 'keep doing the show your doing. It's up to us to bring an audience to the show.' Creatively, the executives at both our studio and our network have been tremendously supportive. Dawn Ostroff, the network president, gave us an encouraging speech about how Seinfeld, Cheers, even our OTH competition (see, I'm catching on) were ratings flops until Season 2. At the recent Television Critics Association network meetings, Dawn said that nearly every critic in America let her know that she simply can't cancel Veronica Mars. That's the good news. If there's bad news, it's that shows are often cancelled by networks even when they love and are proud of a show. At some point, an executive that I don't even know because he/she is so far up the corporate food chain may simply look at the numbers and pull the plug. Still, I would bet on us being back before I bet against us.
I can't tell you how many arguments/discussions/debates you all have had online that we have had in our writer's room as well.
cool. You all have noticed things that blows my mind. In the original version of the Veronica Mars pilot, Lilly's body was disposed of in the ocean. For reasons that I'll explain in detail on the season one DVD (assuming we get one), it became necessary to change the location of her body. Somehow the prop crime scene reports didn't get changed and a few of you froze the screen and were able to read these original reports. Our bad. I've learned. The Veronica Mars audience is on top of these details.
I can't wait for you all to see what comes next. I think the show has gotten better as the season has progressed, and I know we have some great surprises to come.
Thanks again,
Rob Thomas
Oh, and an addendum --
I know fans of the show are bummed when we fail to put Duncan, Weevil or Logan in an episode. Trust me, we aren't choosing to leave them out. Contractually, we don't have these actors locked in for every episode. In our twenty-two episode run, we can use each of the characters 17 times.
int. it's great to have this communication btw makers of a show (artwork) and the involved viewers. that sounds sterile, but really, it's exciting I think.

-OMG, I think I just wet myself! Rob, thanks for posting and thanks for creating two of my favorite shows of all time (Cupid and VM). Not to nitpick or anything, but did you read the TWoP FAQ? You're not supposed to sign your post. The last thing we want is for Couch Baron to ban you.

Couch Baron -I'll let it slide in this case. Heh. Rob, thanks for posting, and welcome to TWoP! As this thread will no doubt soon affirm, you've won a lot of fans on these boards, and with good reason, in my humble opinion. With that in mind, I would love to talk to you or anyone in your offices about arranging an interview, if you're amenable. My staff e-mail is: couchbaron@televisionwithoutpity.com. Any communication will be strictly confidential. And I promise to explain any abbreviations you can't figure out. Again, welcome to the site!

-How very cool!

TWoP 3-3-05 The Rob Thomas Interview, Part I:
So one evening a few weeks ago, I happened to be cruising through my forums when a thread popped up titled 'A Message From Rob Thomas,' who, in case you're not aware, is the creator and co-executive producer of Veronica Mars. I went into the thread with a raised eyebrow, but was easily and quickly able to confirm that the man behind the very nice post was exactly who he claimed to be. Because I am classy like that, I took the opportunity to ask for an interview. ...

TWoP 1-18-07 The Second Rob Thomas Interview: So after the end of the first mini-arc this season, I got in touch with Rob Thomas and asked him if he'd like to do an updated interview.
CB: So, let's go back. You wrapped up Season 1 in pretty amazing style. You were getting great reviews, you were biting your nails, and you got renewed. I assume you had already started planning for Season 2 at that point, but once you actually got the news, what did you do?
RT: I thought I called you! [Both laugh.]
right I think Iread about this in some write-up of twop, maybe re the Bravo purchase, how some tv show producers have themselves gotten involved in the discussion at twop yadda yaddh and in fact the first person that rob thomas of veronica mars called to tell the show had been renewed was the twop recapper...
maybe VM is the exemplary case of the makers of the show responding to the forums?
oh and sth about ASorkin coming on the boards & getting upset, maybe.
