Hulu - Fri, Sep 5, 2008: The Colbert Report: Governor David Paterson (D NY)
Stephen reviews highlights from the last night of the Republican National Convention before sitting down with New York Governor David Paterson. yay Gov David Paterson, known for being a nice guy. the diff btw Democratic & Republican messages (Stephen: "other than th one of them finds community service laughable")? "I think the diff is that the free market wld destroy health care as we know it; it has been a problem in terms of the deficit that we've run up; I think it hasn't helped in terms of business, bcs jobs have been offshored & sent overseas. So there are 2 theories and we've seen one of them the last 8 yrs and we probably wldn't want another 4 yrs."

David Paterson, Governor of New York - wkp: Paterson was selected as running mate by then New York Attorney General and Democratic Party nominee Eliot Spitzer in the 2006 New York gubernatorial election. They were elected in November 2006 with 69 percent of the vote, and Paterson took office as Lieutenant Governor on January 1, 2007. After Spitzer resigned in the wake of a prostitution scandal, Paterson was sworn in as governor of New York on March 17, 2008. He is the first black governor of New York and the first legally blind governor of any state. Although Paterson is a lifelong Democrat who was considered a liberal during his time in the State Senate, he began earning high praise from conservatives during his time as Governor for his efforts to combat the 2008 New York fiscal crisis by major reductions in spending and the enaction of an inflation-indexed property tax cap, a school tax "circuit breaker," and unfunded mandate relief.
