a modest trick up its sleeve. Pay close attention to the opening minutes
ah ha - the actual opening minutes, while credits play - cutting to scenes of ben & his girlfriend, then imbtwn there's a shot of a photo of Madison with a guy who looks like Ben. I think. I barely caught it - Swimfan is playing again ..
.. after Wild Things wh I watched the second half of. fun. I like Neve at the end all light haired and yellow bathing suit strong looking steering the boat. maybe it's the music, think they're playing some light fast tune, fun. then:The End. then we see back scenes of Neve (char - Suzie) engineering things. I kinda dislike how Neve moves her shoulders around uncomfortably same as in the witch movie where also she went from being weird and shoulder-rolly face-hiding to being confident. anyway good deal on only finding out at the end that cop Ray -KevinB- was partners with Sam -MattDillon- and then one-two that there's a partnership btw Sam & Suzie that precedes it (Suzie in back scene, with Sam watching Ray at a motel: I'm surprised you don't know each other already, you hang out at the same places. Trust me, he's dirty, he'll love it. esp the part about killing me. now go on, make a new friend.)
but since I didnt see first hour I dont know how the intitial trial came about. in back scene Suzie confronts Sam with photos of him and Kelly "I don't know what came out better, the straw you put up her nose or the dog collar you're wearing" - ? - is that the two of them together voluntarily? showing that the trial was a set-up? was that initially a plan just by Sam & Kelly?
I like line when Ray is being fired from police: once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action.
oh and great Bill Murray! "the cash is just walkin-around money. ..case closed."
what's he mean, How'd you like being a guest of the state? refer to where she's been while pretending to be 'dead' or sth earlier? oh and the thing with Davie - Suzie saw Ray kill him so in addtn to just getting rich I guess she had motive to get Ray? any reason she was so awkward weird acting - that predates her machinations right (where useful so people think she's ineffective~stupid), so it was just how she acted?
anyway the end is fun, the music. lyrics ~ gonna get the money, then I wont need you anymore.
wild things is the better entertainment probably but swimfan is not bad, still seems to me. I find erika chr's face kind of unpleasant at lst not beautiful to look at though. but the main guy, he really is good looking. and I think he does fine (contrary to one rvw below saying he's not up to leading man) and I like how the character is written, I find him realish. ("handy all over th place, what was that?" head shake and he drives off)
and you'll understand why new student Madison Bell (Erika Christensen) is so obsessed with swim-team star Ben Cronin (Jesse Bradford), but the movie's nearly over before that early clue is fully explained
hmm so if the photo I think I saw was the clue - what explanation comes later?
ah I see maybe ~ only later do we find out there was a prvs guy - Jake. so is the viewer that sees the photo supposed to think that Ben looks like Jake? that might play better if at some point she used the name Jake (when she is with Josh she says 'Ben' but wldnt she pretend Ben was Jake well ok maybe not maybe Ben is replacement for Jake and with Josh she is conscly pretending)
