JulieA - no, you're not missing a high end drama in Grey's. Perhaps a top-notch soap opera, though. It's frothy relationship fun. And, as they say in the business, chicks dig it. Just because you don't means nothing. Except, well, you've got good taste. Posted By: TimGoodman | October 12 2006 at 10:04 PM

Tim Goodman. Feed the Machine re Wednesday: "Lost," Colbert vs. Lucas, "30 Rock":
First, yes, I loved the Colbert Report featuring "George L. from Marin." Colbert is such a good natured geek that his high-concept skewering of his own geekness while reveling in it (meta alert) is sublimely entertaining. ...t's been weird having so many people say they heard the City Arts & Lectures interview I did with Colbert on KQED. That was actually done ages ago. They must have reaired it. If you missed it, you can hear the podcast link right here on The Bastard Machine. Upper right hand corner. Knock yourself out. And I'm doing the same thing with Amy Sedaris on Oct. 23.

Only five freshman show are in the Top 30 series (total viewers) in the Nielsens. If you read my upcoming Friday column in the Chronicle - the last one before the work stoppage - you'll realize this is bad news. Anyway, 'Ugly Betty,' 'Shark,' 'Heroes' and 'The Nine' are four of the five. Bet you can't guess the fifth (which is actually the third highest rated new show of the fall season). And no, don't say 'Studio 60.'
It's 'Brothers & Sisters.' Go figure.
