Life - TWoP Forums p2...
-There's humour and some lightness here (typified by Crews' sheer joy at being free) yet there's also a very dark tone just under the surface

Crews: "Did you ask the dog?" Cop 1: "Did we ask the dog?" Cop 2: "No we didn't ask the dog." Cop 1: "We didn't ask the dog, detective."

-His ability to tune in to the real state of mind of the people (and golden retrievers) he meets worked for me since I imagined he'd have to develop that skill to survive in prison

-Liked the partner and the dry'n'sly remarks she tosses out, but she really carries herself well as a female cop on the bottom rung, needing to prove herself. The freakout/shower scene was shot and acted supremely well. her vulnerability, his tuning into that.

-noticed that when Crews stepped back to let her shower, she sorta reached behind her for his face with her hand, and when he went to grab it she pulled back quickly. I don't know why that caught my attention. It's like she needed to know he was there, but didn't want him to know she needed him there. Powerful.

-He has a lot of money, he's got an edge, he's got a sense of humor, he has actual sex with actual women, and he's still a Buddhist. Also, I'm a dog person and the way he approached and dealt with the dog at the beginning kind of tugged my heartstrings. The kissing the dog on the head was a really excellent little detail.
--So am I, and that just sold me on the show as a whole. His afterwards ("Anyone ever love you that much?") was very nice as well.

-that shoot out scene where he went over to the guy and told him it was all a dream and to go back to sleep..
--The emotional rollercoaster effect is huge, one minute he's shooting and the next moment he's let it all go and tries to calm and sooth both the suspect and his partner. The guy is complex and actually more believable than a guy like House, in my mind. He has more than one feeling and more than one behavior in his repertoire. His reflexes are sharp not only from cop training and prison anxiety, but probably also from the zen practice (I am more of a vipassana meditator but it really does sharpen your senses, either way). He's great at his job, kind of a crank but also capable of kindness. He stabs the severed finger with his handy razor-sharp pocket knife while gently handling the dog. I like that I never know what to expect.

-The case didn't annoy me; I found it surprisingly refreshing and mystery free. What other cop show does a straightforward crime sans twist like that nowadays?

"Do you ever think that no one will ever understand what we did…that the world is now you and me in one place, everyone else in another?"

-I love shows that play around with life metaphors (and really, no pun intended there). When he's going on about joy to the jerky prison guard, I thought, well, isn't that what we all spend most of our time doing? Veer between trying to be happy and keep ourselves from kicking annoying, stupid people's asses? Isn't it?

p10 Lets hope the network doesn't go all Kidnapped on this show. - attica finch, who I tht I recalled fr Kidnapped thread. this feels similar: NBC show, single thread on twop (not recapped)
